Our community welcomed Minister of Police Stuart Nash to open the new Police station in the Ngaruawahia township.
Minister Nash commended the project team for a speedy build. Importantly he reinforced the Governments desire to train more Police and place them in the community. The event was attended by community leaders, local kaumātua and dignatories from NZ Police and other stakeholders. Commissioner Mike Bush MNZM said that the new operating model for Police was about prevention and engaging with the community. The project build was delivered within three months and reflects a robust approach to facility upgrades and new builds.
Waikato District Mayor Alan Sanson mention the positive collaboration that the district enjoys working alongside the Police. He further highlighted the rapid growth in the northern part of the district and a strong desire to work on community safety initiatives.
The carvings were restored from the previous Police building and acknowledgements were made to the late Dan Solomon and the late Inia Te Wiata who were the original carvers.
