Community Spirit Fills Hungry Tummies

The sandwich gang has supported struggling whanau for about five years now.
They currently serve 55 schools in the Waikato district through voluntary effort.
Local leader Jamie Pink is the president of the local Hucks gang in Ngaruawahia and it’s his team making sandwiches for kids who too often go without.
I admire their determination to keep it real and address the harsh effects of growing equality and poverty.
The truth is though that this need is one driven by hardship. No jobs, increasing cost of living and whanau struggling to make ends meet. The Huks had stepped up when the government stepped out!

Labour supported Metiria Turei’s ‘Feed the Kids’ Bill which was voted down 59 – 61, a real solution to tackle the issue of kids going to school without a kai. How can they learn if their puku is hungry?
I’m keen to hear your feedback if you support the next Labour Government providing school lunch.

In fact, if you have any suggestion about improving educational opportunities for our kids, send me some feedback.
