Maapuna ana mai te rere o roimata ki te mate. Ko Kaiwaka i te rangi te tohu o aituaa ki te papa, e too ai te tangata.
Last week I attended the tangi for a significant political leader for Tainui and Māoridom, Koro Wētere was a mentor to me and many others he showed politcal naus and inspired a commitment to advance māori asperation.
He was a leader in the establishment of the Kohanga Reo movement, he helped extend the reach of the Waitangi Tribunal, and lead māori land development initiatives consolidating the backbone of the māori economy.
Koro also ensured the smooth passage of the Waikato Raupatu Settlement Act 1995 and he continued to lead his people when he left Parliament in 1996.
His enduring legacy will always be his loyal service to his people.
Moe mai e te pononga o te Kingitanga kia au to moe.
