Kāhui Ako – In Huntly It Will take a Community to Raise a Child

I was pleased to open the first Communities of Learning hui in Huntly pulling together leaders from across Huntly alongside teachers, Principals, social workers, advocates and local council.

The message was simple – in order to support the learning opportunities for our tamariki and rangatahi we need to foster excellence and collaboration. A brief presentation from the organising committee setting out the context for the discussions were an important introduction for an evening of workshops. People pulled together with ideas and initiatives that could be implemented with greater co-ordination and collaboration and it was a great start to a community led project.

The event was hosted by Huntly College and looks set to be the first of many – Well done!
