Women’s refuge numbers spike at Christmas

Christmas is a time when people want to be celebrating – getting together with whanau, going to the beach and having a good holiday. But for a lot of families, it is not that way at all. People are struggling, wondering how they can pay their bills over the Christmas period and it is very much a stress point. I sit on the board of a women’s refuge and our numbers always spike over Christmas, because of the stress on families.  We plan for this time – in terms of ensuring we have enough kai to give out under emergency situations, to have the workforce over this busy time and to have places in safe houses to pick up women and their children and put them in a safe environment.

Please consider supporting the important work that the Women’s Refuge do in our communities.
