What is Youth Parliament?
Each Member of Parliament (MP) selects a Youth MP to represent them from rangatahi in their community, mine being Hauraki-Waikato
If you are successful, you will submit potential topics to be discussed at Youth Parliament, deliver projects, engage with me and my team, connect with my peers to understand their views on topics to be discussed at the two-day Youth Parliament event, and access other opportunities.
At the Youth Parliament, Youth MPs learn about parliamentary and government decision making processes through participating in general and mock legislative debates, sitting on Youth Parliament select committees and asking parliamentary questions of Ministers.
You will be provided with training to help you understand your role and to support you to prepare for the two-day Youth Parliament event in Wellington.
Youth Parliament 2019 programme will run from 1 March to 31 August 2019, with 120 Youth MPs. With the Highlight of experiencing what it is like to work as an MP in Parliament Wellington on the 16 and 17 July 2019.
Youth Parliament nominations close 19 October 2018.
To be eligible to be selected as my Youth MP for Youth Parliament 2019, you need to be Māori and aged 16 to 18 years at the close of the selection period on 19 October 2018 and live in my electorate of Hauraki-Waikato.
If you are not in my electorate you can apply to your local MP as all MP’s will be selecting rangatahi to participate next year. Each MP has a different selection process so make sure you check what it is first.
